Program description

This 80-hour course covers a wide range of topics and includes site visits and some practical exercises. Throughout the course you will learn the design components to produce a high quality Permaculture Design for an area of your choosing which will be presented to the class at the end of the course.

Permaculture is so much more than gardening. It is a holistic approach to sustainable living. It’s an intentional design process that works with nature allowing for energy efficiency and abundance of yield. Over the 8 weeks of this course you will cover an extensive list of topics guided by the recognised Permaculture Elder Pete the Permie and his team of tutors. This is not a template for a sustainable life, but is designed to give you the tools and resources to create or adapt to best suit your individual needs. It will also provide you with the skills to produce permaculture designs as a sole trader. It also provides pathways to further accreditation as acknowledged prior learner. 

Some of the topics covered include The history of permaculture, embodied energy and energy systems, Bioregions, ecosystems, climate, zones and sectors, old and new landscapes, designing using nature, design features and tools, trees & ecology of the forest, functional analysis tools, design for fire prone landscapes, mapping skills, soil, composting, worm farms, bokashi, microclimates, water cycles, aquaponics and wicking beds, pruning, grafting, animals, passive solar, building materials, energy audits, economic strategies and structures, alternative economics, community economics, ethical investment.

If Start date is not Oct 15th - Nov 14th & Nov 28th


We will aim to have 20 onsite in the hall whist complying with Covid-19 safety regulations EG: Social Distancing/Face Masks/Good Hygiene Practices.
Alternatively we can split classes in two groups of ten each on Thursdays & Fridays in a smaller room whilst still complying with Covid-19 Safety Regulations.
There is the possibility the class may need to switch to Online Zoom Learning after the first few weeks.

We are making every effort to account for the ever changing landscape, with contingency plans and adaptable delivery. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility.
